FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
What is Lightning Lift?
Lightning Lift is a boat & PWC lift motor without shore power, deep cycle batteries, solar panels, or jumper cables.
How do I use Lightning Lift?
Attach any powerful cordless drill and lift your boat, jet ski, or personal watercraft out of the water.
What type of drill do you recommend?
Our favorite performer is the 24v flex drill sold at Lowes (we don’t suggest using it in turbo mode as it is crazy fast)! It sells for approximately $160 and comes with two batteries (2.5ah & 4.0ah) and a speed charger. Lifting a 3000lb pontoon, we quickly did six complete life cycles, and it burned 1 of 4 bars on the 2.5ah battery.
Our second favorite drill was the Milwaukee M18 Fuel, sold at big box stores like Home Depot and Ace hardware. Considering it’s nearly 6V less than the Flex drill, it performed almost the same. Another good option is the 18v Ridgid, sold at Home Depot. You lose a little speed and torque compared to the M18 Fuel or Flex; however, if you buy this drill and register it within 30 days of purchase, they will give you a lifetime warranty on the drill and the batteries!
Whatever drill you decide to use, we recommend that it meet or exceed the following requirements: 1). Lithium 18-24 battery with two or more amp hours, 2.) A brushless drill motor. The only drill we don’t recommend is the Harbor Freight brand drill. Two worm clamps and a screwdriver are all it takes to remove it from your lift! The only seasonal maintenance is to remove it in the off-season and (if needed) apply a small dab of grease on the pinion gear (the smaller gear).
